COACHES, PARENTS AND SWIMMERS: THE FRIDAY PM SESSION HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Due to the
scorching heat in Cape Girardeau
the last few days, the pool water temperature has been over the
maximum of 82.4 degrees allowed in a USA Swimming competition.
The Gator Swim Team, along with the City of Cape Girardeau
staff, are working diligently to bring the water temperature
down to acceptable levels for the meet, but we can’t guarantee
that we will be able to accomplish that by Friday 5pm.
Therefore, the Friday PM session is officially cancelled in
order to give everyone a chance to cancel or change their hotel
reservations accordingly (since most hotels only allow changes
up to 24-hours before check-in.) The Gator Board of Directors
will make a final determination about the status of Saturday and
Sunday sessions by noon on Friday, after evaluating the progress
of the current efforts to control the water temperature. Details
and updates will be posted here as they become available.

WATER TEMPERATURE UPDATE: Four pumps will be on all night squirting water jets into the air and back into the pool, in an effort to bring the water temperature down to safe levels for competition. We will know the result of this effort Friday morning. Special thanks to Mark Coots and Coach Steve for all their work trying to make the meet possible for everyone. Mark and Steve are camping at the pool tonight to make sure the pumps are operating nonstop, waking up hourly to refuel them. Thanks, guys! SWIMMERS MAY DECK-ENTER EXTRA EVENTS: Swimmers who were going to swim one of their events Friday evening will be allowed to deck-enter any other event of their choice in order to swim the 10 events allowed in the meet (max 5 events per day). THE
MEET HAS BEEN CANCELLED: The water temperature
this morning was at 88 degrees, despite the efforts to bring it
down further. That, plus fact that Cape Girardeau is again
under another
Heat Advisory
this weekend with the heat index for Saturday predicted to reach
107 degrees, prompted the Gator Swim Team to cancel the meet
completely. It has not been an easy decision, as we
understand the importance this meet had for many swimmers
looking forward to get qualifying times for Ozark Champs, Zones
and Sectionals, but safety and the swimmers' health shall always
come first.

The Gator Swim Team is inviting all USA Swimming teams to participate in its third annual Firecracker Frenzy swim meet, to take place June 26-28 in Cape Girardeau. This is a long course meet held outdoors at Central Municipal Pool.

WHEN: On June 27, beginning right after the Saturday PM session and ending at 9:00pm. WHERE: At the same outdoor pool where the competition is being held. Tickets to attend the party are available at $5 per person when ordered in advance, or $7 per person at the door. Coaches and officials will receive complimentary tickets.
